Screening at Encounters Film Festival in South Africa Big Success!

The screening of Turn it Loose at the Encounters Film Festival in Cape Town on August 28 was a big success. It marked the end of a four city tour with Red Bull BC One All Stars Roxrite and Lilou to South Africa.

Tour organizer Zacharia Ramasia informed us, “The movie was received with great appreciation; even by those who didn’t have any idea about B-Boying before. The Q & A session was a mind opener for those not regularly exposed to the art of B-Boying. You could tell people fell in love with B-Boying right there and then, due to the way it was depicted in the movie. Having protagonists of the movie available for questioning was a treat to behold. The audience could not get enough of them. And of course there was that one question being posed to Lilou again, ‘Where is the belt?’”

Lilou and Roxrite, protagonists of the film, connected with the South African youths during the tour. They gave workshops in four cities, judged the Solo Pro B-Boy Battle in Johannesburg, South Africa’s most important B-Boy competition, and were available for questions and sit-downs with the B-Girls and B-Boys who had come to meet them. The kids were very appreciative having a chance to work with two of the most famous B-Boys of the planet. In return, the All Stars were impressed by the eagerness of the youngsters to learn.

Lilou stated, “Its crazy how flexible the South African kids are! With more influence by B-Boys from the international scene and some practice with attention to footwork and the technical side of things, they should easily be a force to be reckoned with.”

Apart from the B-Boy events, Roxrite and Lilou made great memories travelling the country. From visits to local markets to shark diving, they were up for it! The whole tour was a great experience not only for the local youths but also for the famous All Stars!

Roxrite said, “I have been enjoying all the cities. It’s cool to hang out with the locals. It’s somewhat of a Hip Hop exchange and it’s humbling and inspiring to see how much they appreciate us being here as they don’t get too many opportunities like this. Experiences like this are another reason we love the dance.”
